EmmaLisa's Dolls by Q.M. Imakhu
Named for Queen Mother Imakhu's late maternal Great-Grandmother EmmaLisa, artisan and designer who created beautiful clothing and art from the materials she had. Queen Mother's own mother passed the sock doll tradition to her as a child. Queen Mother Imakhu presents her own version of handmade cultural sock dolls. EmmaLissa's Dolls honor the family bloodline of African, Latin-Caribe, and Black Southern culture. The dolls do not show distinctive facial features. This reflects the ancient technique of simultaneously honoring all ancestors. The dolls also honor the powerful, ancient African Forces of Nature Oya, Yansan, Nana Buruque (Buruku). Also, Latin-Caribbean mystical mothers, "Las Madamas" (including La Negra Tomasa, the Baianas, Negra Babaloa, Mama Francisco Siete Sayas, the Curandera, and La Bruja.
